As you go through each room in your home, start with thes.
1. Declutter Before a Deep Clean
Find a new place for any visible clutter that doesn’t belong in the room. Save things behind closed doors for another day to help simplify your deep cleaning checklist. Clearing out clutter makes it easier to deep clean, and seeing those tidy surfaces can help boost your motivation to keep going.
2. Start High, Go Low
Tackle large, hard-to-reach surfaces in this order: ceiling, crown molding, ceiling light fixtures (including light bulbs), walls, all other trim, and baseboards. The best tools for these surfaces are microfiber clean mops, dusters with telescoping handles, or disinfectant cleaning wipes. Bonus: These tools are usually thin enough to place behind the couch without moving it. Above eye level, all you need is a splash of water on the mop.
3. Deep Cleaning Of Windows
Cleaning windows is quite simple and the reward is enormous. First, vacuum the thresholds and pathways. Then spray the window with glass cleaner from top to bottom. Let the cleaner do its job for a minute and then remove it with a putty knife. If you wipe in one direction on the inside and another on the outside, it will be easier to see and fix the scratches.
4. Upgrade Your Window Treatments
Save yourself the trouble of lowering blinds or curtains. All you need to do is vacuum them with the brush. And instead of washing and ironing your curtains, simply fluff them in the dryer for a few minutes while you clean the rod and rings. Then hang them again.
5. Remove Dust From Surfaces
Clean all remaining hard surfaces (wooden furniture, shelves, built-ins, etc.) with furniture cleaner and polish and a soft cloth. For faster cleaning, place a clean cotton tube sock on your dominant hand to dust surfaces and remove items with your other hand. Lastly, run a lint roller over the lampshades.
6. Deep Clean Floors
To do it right, you’ll need to move furniture, even larger pieces like beds and couches. To make moving heavy pieces easier, place furniture guides under the legs of large pieces. Next, take out your vacuum cleaner’s crevice tool to remove dirt from corners and along baseboards. If you have a hard floor, clean it with a microfiber mop and the appropriate cleaner for the surface. If you have carpet, now is a good time to hire a professional-grade cleaner. And if you have pets and/or children, think about investing in your own.
